At this point, it's up to the player to plot a course for the tanks, missile launchers and supply units that will invade. When beginning a map, an overview of each area is given and all of the enemy's defenses can be seen. It may not seem like much of a difference but once the troops are in the trenches, it stands apart from the crowd. Instead of placing towers and wiping out approaching columns of enemies, the player is now the one invading.
No, the value in Anomaly: Warzone Earth is how it flips the genre's overfamiliar structure. While the game tells a thin story of alien forces landing on Earth and annoying the populace, it's weak and has no bearing on play. It was with some hesitation that I sat down with Anomaly Warzone Earth, but I was happy to find that going from Tower Defense to Tower Offense got me interested again.

The charm of placing guns and playing passively soon wore off, and it wore off hard. Unfortunately, that patch of earth proved to be a little too fertile-before I knew it, every third game was some sort of iteration on the formula. I'm always up for things that break new ground, and it was unlike anything else I had played at the time. When I first found out about Tower Defense way back when, I thought it was an interesting genre. WTF It's never explained why your forces can't slow or stop. LOW Waiting one second too long to change course and getting mulched. HIGH Bringing maxed-out missile launchers to bear on the enemy.

Do you take the route with a few less enemies, with no money to be collected, or take the route with more intimidating enemies, but yield more bucks to upgrade your units? Decisions like this seem mundane, but certainly add to the overall active thinking that goes on during a real time strategy game.The Slow-moving Runaway Choo-choo Train of Deadly Death Units can be upgraded via money that is collected from gathering a resource throughout each map, which also adds another layer of strategy to the gameplay. There were a few occasions where I had to end up circling a route to ensure I killed all the enemies, but as the game progressed and the gameplay easier to understand, towers fell under my mighty regime. Combined with the units you opt to purchase, how you arrange them, and ultimately the route they will take will determine how quickly the enemy is dispatched. The strategy element kicks up here, specifically. While you will be unable to target specific enemies, efficiency on the battlefield comes from planning a good route for the convoy. Along the way, after destroying enemies, 14th Platoon's (the unit under the player's control) air support will drop off supplies to utilize - for further progress through the level. You will assume the role of the battlefield commander (to replace the original touch controlled interface of the mobile platforms) and will be able to utilize the commander to help your squad by either healing, buffing, or diverting enemy forces to ensure your resources do not get trounced. Get to the end and make sure your squad doesn't get destroyed. When talking about a tower offense game, the goals of a particular level are very clear.

Let's break this game down a bit further and really see where the successes lie. Plain, and simple, beginner real time strategy fun. Perhaps the most important thing to note about Anomaly: Warzone Earth is that it's fun. The game doesn't baby the player very much and introduces new resources at the right moment when particular segments might seem a bit dire. Perhaps one of the best strengths of Anomaly is its ability to easily integrate the player into the controls and resource management of the game.
